History and Recognition
This page describes the history, recognition, and standards related to computer data storage units:
- Bit: Smallest unit of information, introduced in the 1940s.
- Nibble: 4 bits, used for hexadecimal representation.
- Byte (B): 8 bits, standard unit for storage.
- Binary Units (IEC): Introduced by IEC in 1998, multiples of 1024 (KiB, MiB, etc.).
- Decimal Units (SI): Standardized by ISO/IEC, multiples of 1000 (KB, MB, etc.).
